Annouchka de Andrade and Henda Ducados have initiated a project dedicated to the preservation, study, and dissemination of the works of Sarah Maldoror and Mário de Andrade, two seminal figures in the struggles for African independence and cultural emancipation.
This initiative foregrounds the critical importance of film restoration, the archiving of primary source materials—including correspondence, manuscripts, unpublished screenplays, and other previously inaccessible documents—as integral components of safeguarding their intellectual and artistic legacy.
The primary objective of the association is to promote the cinematic oeuvre and theoretical contributions of Maldoror and de Andrade. In doing so, it seeks to ensure the enduring transmission of their thought, foster scholarly engagement, and support ongoing research into their work and influence.
The association employs all available means—both public and private—to support the restoration and promotion of their body of work, whether published or unpublished, audiovisual or written. It is equally committed to the systematic cataloguing, preservation, and curation of their archives, encompassing audiovisual, sonic, and textual materials in various formats.
In pursuit of these aims, the association participates in and organizes a wide array of cultural and academic activities, including colloquia, retrospectives, festivals, and other public or private events. These endeavors are designed to encourage international recognition and critical engagement with the intellectual and artistic contributions of Sarah Maldoror and Mário de Andrade.
